Remember This In Your Heart

by Amy

We had a tree in our front yard. It provided shade and shelter and sustenance.

My brother built a swing and attached it to a branch of this tree, for my children.

"But the wood is tired and the wood is old And we'll make it fine if the weather holds"

But the weather doesn’t always hold. Trees are majestic and powerful and beautiful and strong. But when they are sick, they can be dangerous.

It was time to say goodbye to our tree.

My children grew up around and under this tree.

Yesterday, Evan was given another tree, which we will plant for the future.

I remember things by writing them down, by taking a picture.

But this is what I hope for my children:

"Don't you write it down Remember this in your head Don't take a picture Remember this in your heart"
