The Sun Comes Out!

by Amy

The sun did come, and we took full advantage for the last few days of Mom's visit. Since Seth was no worse for the wear on Saturday, we headed out for another fun day of sightseeing. It still wasn't warm enough to go to the beach, but we had a great day driving to different places on the island. My brother's girlfriend joined us for our travels, and we all had a great time. First, we started out with a trip up to the Pali Lookout. It is a beautiful place to get a great view of the windward side of the island, and it sure is windy up there! Little Evan likes when we blow gently on his face, but he wasn't quite sure what to make of this!

After the Pali, we drove on to the beautiful Hoʻomaluhia botanical gardens. It was fun to stroll through the paths and look at all the native Hawaiian duck party." There was only one lone duck when he first started throwing out the bread, but there were quite a few more by the time he was done! Jason also introduced Seth to sleeping grass. When you stroke it, it actually closes up and "goes to sleep". We all thought this was really neat!

After all the sightseeing, we were hungry for lunch at Makapuʻu Blowhole - another great sightseeing venue where you can see water shooting up through the rocks just like a whale spout.

We capped off the day with a trip to the very interested in watching what was going on. And little Evan really loved the show - he loves to dance, and he was bopping right along with the hula dancers. Mom really enjoyed this whole day, and it was so much fun!

Sunday morning, we had our friends Meg and Sarah over for brunch with Anne and Tom. We all had a great time, with good conversation and yummy food. By this point, Evan was not feeling well, but it was a perfect beach day. While I stayed home with Evan, Geema finally got to have her first real beach day, and Jason and Seth. They all had a blast. Mom got to have a great dinner with Anne and Tom at their country club, too, so it was a fun day all around.

On Monday morning, Mom, Jason and Seth did some shopping at the Kahala Mall, and then Mom spent the morning with my brother's girlfriend while Jason and Seth did some more errands. Then, another beach day for Mom, Jason, and Seth, this time to Tuesday morning, Evan was starting to feel better, so Jason, Seth, and Evan Mom, Anne, and I had a great time visiting Iolani Palace - a beautiful site, and an interesting (and very sad) story about the end of the Hawaiian monarchy. After a wonderful tour, we had a very nice lunch out with Anne.

No trip to Hawaii would be complete without a trip around the island, so we drove out to the North Shore. Mom had a great time seeing the beautiful scenery out that way. We stopped for fresh coconut, and we took pictures at delicious dinner, and the boys had a good time and were good sports in the car.

Wednesday was Mom's last day in Hawaii, so we headed to Kaimana Beach one last time, which was great. Mom had a blast with the boys in the water, and it was fun to all be together. We relaxed at home in the afternoon, and then had a nice dinner at the Blu Water Grill with Anne, Mom, and Judy. Jason brought Mom out to the airport at night, and she headed back home. What a great visit!
