Countdown to Zipper
by Jason
We just had an ultrasound on Monday at 36 and a half weeks. We've attached a few of the sonograms below. The ultrasound showed that everything was healthy with Zipper, and his weight estimate was 6 pounds 13 ounces. He's a good-sized baby! These are all 3-D pictures and you can really see his face this time around. His legs are tucked up near his head right now, so you can see his toes in front of his face. It's starting to get crowded in there! We think it's cool to see his features (chubby cheeks and lips), and the ultrasound tech told us he has a full head of hair at the moment.
Our doctor says Zipper will probably put on about half a pound a week, so it's looking more likely that Amy will need a C-section in the next 2-3 weeks (given Amy's small stature, the doctor thinks this is the safest option for mom and the baby). We have several more appointments and another ultrasound in the next few weeks and we are waiting on a definite date for the C-section.
We want to apologize to all of you who e-mailed and called that we haven't been able to respond to. We really appreciate all the good wishes, but we've been a little overwhelmed these last couple weeks getting ready for baby and dealing with work. Also, Amy has come down with a bad cold this week which is no fun this late in the pregnancy. She's going to make it through this week and stop working after Friday. After that, she'll have maternity leave and the summer off, and will come back in the fall with a reduced number of hours in the library.
We've also included a couple pictures of the three of us from the "outside" taken just shy of 36 weeks. We're excited for all that lies ahead, and we'll try our best to stay in touch before the big day.
