British CSI: a "Monumental Cock-up"

by Guest (Carolyn Owen)

Carolyn: We've made it back to London! We left Joanne's this morning after a quick trip to Innos Market. We took the Metro across town to the Gare du Nord station to pick up the Eurostar train to Waterloo. We were early arriving to the station so we sat at a table and were promptly berated my a mean French guy who wanted us to buy three strawberry tarts in order to sit at the table. (We left.) We finally boarded the train and waved goodbye to Paris.

We arrived in London at 5:00pm and hopped on the Tube to head out to our hotel near the airport. And thus, we experienced the most miserable subway ride of the trip. Mad luggage, mad heat, smelly people. When we finally got to Osterley, we threw ourselves from the Tube, and ended our final foreign subway ride of the trip. (Still have to conquer the T back in Boston.)

Of course, we still had to get to the hotel; its website touted a 10-minute walk from the Tube station to the hotel. Guess what...they lied! So we shlepped for a good solid 20, with luggage, and finally arrived at...the Best Western. This may be an American-sounding hotel, but thankfully it features a full range of Brit channels. We sampled Brit reality shows, where apparently they throw celebs from the back of a plane if they aren't as famous as the other guy. (They also make them participate in reality shows reminiscent of the cancelled but most fabulous Paradise Hotel.) We also found the Brit version of COPS. (Ooooh, two celebs just won a romantic evening in the love shack! Sorry, I digress.) We plan to get up and have some breakfast and then head off to Heathrow for the final travel day of Eurotrip.
